Finally the time has come for the big event. We were so excited that we forgot how cold it was. The show started with a look back at the history of the winter olympic sites. I got to see the show on tape when I got back. Let me tell you, it was so much better in person!
One of the 1st things that they did was to bring in a flag that flew at the World Trade Center. The entire place went silent. You could hear a pin drop. The only sound was that of the military helicopters flying above. That's President Bush on the right. The main production started with a skating routine that highlighted the Olympic theme, "Light The Fire Within." We got to be a part of the celebration by lighting a flashlight on cue... Hey, we should have gotten paid for that!
USA! USA! Here is team USA marching into the stadium. The rainbow of color in the distance is the Olympic Athletes, Utah Symphony and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Hundreads of Buglers announced the next part of the ceremony with a terrific fanfare.
Utah was originally inhabited by 5 Indian tribes. The 5 tribes got together during the ceremonies and each tribe welcomed the athletes in their native tounges.
